What do industrial cleaning services cost?
Industrial cleaning is not office cleaning at a larger scale. It is production line and machinery cleaning, high level and ductwork, tanks and silos, post-construction handovers and spill response, usually squeezed into a shutdown window and sometimes involving confined space entry or working at height. Those two elements change the job entirely, which is why nobody publishes a rate. Below is what actually sets the price, and the form puts your site in front of contractors who quote it properly.

What sets an industrial cleaning price, 2026

We do not publish a rate per square metre for industrial cleaning, because the number would be wrong for almost every site that read it. The same 2,000 square metres costs one thing at floor level during a shutdown and something else entirely at 12 metres, around live plant, at night. This table is the list contractors actually price against: what each factor is, why it moves the quote, and the specific thing to ask for so two quotes can be compared.
This is a cost-driver table rather than a price list, and deliberately so. - Regulation 9 of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992 requires that every workplace, and the furniture, furnishings and fittings in it, shall be kept sufficiently clean, that floor, wall and ceiling surfaces inside buildings shall be capable of being kept sufficiently clean, and that so far as is reasonably practicable waste materials shall not be allowed to accumulate in a workplace except in suitable receptacles.
- Access, not area, is usually the biggest single variable in an industrial cleaning quote: the same surface costs materially more once it can only be reached by access equipment or through a confined space entry.
- HSE's order for work at height is to avoid it where reasonably practicable, then prevent falls, then minimise the distance and consequences of a fall, with collective protection considered before personal protection.

How much does industrial cleaning cost?
There is no meaningful published rate, because access, soiling level, working window, chemistry, waste route and frequency move the figure more than floor area does. Is there a legal duty to keep a factory clean?

How often should industrial cleaning be done?
There is no legal minimum interval for general industrial cleaning, and any contractor quoting one is describing their own product rather than the law. Frequency is driven by the process, the soiling rate, fire and dust risk, hygiene or audit standards that apply to your sector, and how quickly build-up starts to affect the plant. A maintained interval is almost always cheaper over a year than a single deep clean after years of accumulation.
Does industrial cleaning include tanks and silos?
Many contractors offer it, but treat it as a separate specialism rather than an add-on. Vessel cleaning frequently involves confined space entry, which brings a trained team, atmosphere monitoring, isolation, permits and rescue arrangements. Ask first whether the vessel can be cleaned remotely, and where entry is unavoidable, confirm competence and rescue provision before work starts.
What should an industrial cleaning quote include?
The scope in writing, the access method named, crew size and hours, the products and method proposed, where wash water and waste will go and with which carrier, what is excluded, and the rate for additional shifts if a shutdown window slips. Sending one identical written scope to every contractor is the single most effective way to get quotes that can actually be compared.
